IMPROVING OUR NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS

Education activists, including former McCutcheon School Principal Gwyn Kram, speak about Alderman Cappleman’s accomplishments improving 46th ward schools. 

As a former public school teacher, I know that access to quality public education and strong neighborhood schools are the cornerstone to thriving communities. That is why, during my time as Alderman, I am proud that I:

• Supported a Moratorium on the expansion of charter schools  in the city of Chicago
  
• Testified to CPS about the need for trained nurses, social workers and mental health professionals in our schools
  
• Forged great Relationships with principals and parents in our neighborhood schools and Local School Councils
  
• I helped secure $10M for a gym at McCutcheon School
  
• Successfully advocated for the expansion of the “Becoming A Man” program which focuses education and extra-curricular services on young men in effort to keep them from joining gangs
  
• Successfully advocated to have Courtenay keep their music teacher for this school year and secured $100K to go towards building them a new playground
